This is when the sun finally appears after three months of cold weather and heavy clothing. Nope, it's not summer time just yet. I'm referring to the one and only college spring break. Ideas for this week of R&R fill the air as we speak. Countless students are booking hotel rooms by the beach and figuring out who they're catching a ride with. There's no doubt that this is one occasion designed for young adults.

While I've heard plenty of college spring break stories that almost sound too good to be true, I've listened to a few doosies as well. This reminds me of how dangerous college spring break can be if not approached in the right manner. So, what I'm saying is; there are some basic rules that every college kid should know in order to survive their spring break getaway. Number one; travel in your own vehicle or with friends you truly trust. I'm talking about the friends that care about you more than their social life for a night. Although they're few and far between, they do indeed exist. Number two; never invite people you don't know back to your room. This is a terrible idea. You could possibly be getting into a mess you can't even fathom. Plus, it's dangerous! Number three; avoid getting drunk and wasted out in public. If you are the legal age to drink, then do so responsibly. You never know who might take advantage of your situation when plastered out in public. You could get raped, mugged, or even worse. I realize college spring break is supposed to be a time to cut loose, but it's up to you to be responsible and safe at the same time.

People always head for the beaches on college spring break. I suppose there's just something about the warm sand between your toes and the ocean waves crashing against the shore. It's definitely a beautiful place to kick-back and forget about the chaos of school. Just be certain you know the local laws/rules before starting and beach bonfires or beer fests. The last thing you want is for your college spring break bash to become a criminal offense. Party wisely on spring break this year.

financial aid college

Many dream of going to a certain college because of its reputation and because they have a career goal in mind. Though some have the grades and some do not, the bigger problem often ends up being how to get financial aid college money. This is not always hard, but it might be harder than some students anticipated. Even with the aid out there, some have to have money from their parents, or their parents may end up taking out a loan just to cover the costs, and the costs can be high.

I remember having to go up to the financial aid college office at my school to sign papers for my loans each quarter. The lady in the office always said the same thing to me. She asked me if I was ready to sign my life away. I never really took her very seriously, but she was telling more truth than I ever knew. Those loans for financial aid college costs have piled up and I feel that I am never going to pay them off. I know one day I will, but that is how it feels right now anyway.

I was not alone in this. Many of the people I knew while in school also had to take out extensive financial aid college help to get through. It’s a common story and there are many that struggle to pay back the money, even though the terms of repayment tend to be decent. There are programs that help some pay, but the qualifications are very slim. There are times when the debt might be forgiven, but don’t assume that will happen for you. When you take out financial aid college money help, make sure you are prepared to spend a lot of time paying it off.

Any time you might need help with your financial aid college information, you should talk to your high school guidance counselor, you should talk to someone at your college of choice if you have already decided where you want to go and you have been accepted. Most colleges and other schools will help with this sort of thing because they want you to be able to stay and make it through the courses they are offering. Just be sure to think long and hard before you choose a school if you must rely on financial aid. You don’t want to pay for something you will never use, and then have to spend twenty years paying it off in the end.

Read Efficiently and Get Better Grades

How Too Read Your Text Book Efficiently And As A Result, Get Better Grades
Below are eight tips to help you read and understand your text book so you can guarantee yourself better grades. 1. Skim through all titles and headings before reading the first paragraph. This will give you an idea regarding the material covered in the chapter or section and help you create a mental picture of the material as you read.

2. Quickly read through the material in the section the first

time to pick out the basic concepts. Do not try to remember

or write down specific details yet. Just get an idea of what

is discussed in the reading.

3. Re-read the section carefully and take notes as you read.

Read a paragraph or even a few sentences if the

paragraphs are complicated, stop, and think about what

you read. This is the RST method. Read, Stop and take a

few minutes to digest the material and Think about what

you read. Paraphrase the material. Put it in your own

language; what does it mean to you? You may even want

to recite what you read out loud. A lot of students find the

Thinking part easier when they actually get their thoughts

down on paper. Do not try to write everything, just little

phrases to remind yourself of what you just thought

about.

4. Be sure to look at figures, diagrams, and inserts. One

picture or graph may contain the same amount of

information found in a lengthy paragraph and be much

easier to decipher. Be sure to read all captions.

5. Record all boldfaced words and their meanings in your own

words in your notes. They must be important if the

textbook authors and publishers went out of their way to

boldface them!

6. Once you are finished reading, summarize what you just

read out loud. Your ability to discuss this will serve as a

true test to determine whether or not you understood

what you just read.

7. Skim through the text a few more times, especially prior to

and after lectures that compliment the material in the text.

8. Try to organize all of your notes to create the big picture.

Add information from your class notes to your text notes

and/or add information from your text notes to your class

notes. This combination is easily accomplished if you type

over your notes, leaving yourself with a neat, organized

and thorough copy of everything you need to know for

that chapter/unit.

College savings plan

Sometimes I ponder the future and it wipes me out. Do you know what I'm getting at here? Just think of all those expenses that you've yet to cover. Here, I'll name a few to put things into perspective. There's the house, unless you've paid it off; there's always some vehicle because we end up switching; there's credit card debt and possibly past loans; there's retirement; and finally, if you have children there are education savings plans to think about. WOW, now that feels like a ton of bricks smacking you in the face, doesn't it? Hey, I never said you were going to like where I was going with this. I merely wanted to offer some valid food for thought. After all, we need to really budget and plan ahead of time to deal with these routine life expenses. Do you have a plan in motion?

I have a daughter who is about to start college this winter quarter and a seven year old who has a ways to go yet. Unfortunately the older one has tuition due this Friday. Talk about a reality check. Did I think out education savings plans many years ago? Of course not! That would have put me too far ahead of the game. And let's face it, being prepared and stress-free is simply not the American way. So now I have to come up with a fat amount of tuition cash ASAP. Not a fun thing to do, by the way. This is a perfect example why you should not follow suit. Avoid this entire issue by starting education savings plans for your children far in advance. It really isn't brain surgery. Let me offer a simple example. You start a savings account for each child. If you have only one, then that's even easier. Place a portion of money, whatever you can handle, in their savings accounts each pay period. You can even have your bank do this for you so that you won't have to deal with it routinely. This money will really start to build as the years pass by. By the time your child hits college, he/she will have a nice nest-egg waiting to assist financially.

I won't make the same mistake twice. With my second daughter, I will revert to the education savings plans. We just set up her savings account and things are now put in motion. At least I learned something the first time around.

Foreign Students in America

What happend in Virginia Tech is unspeakable.
It happens all the time around us. Provide crime prevention and instill positive values and build self confidence in young people.Even those with limited resources can start a YCW program and build relationship of trust with foreign students.
So, join the club geeks ;)

Now, I just want to thank Elizabeth and Daniel for sending me fantastic questions. I will try to answer all of them.

Ladys first ;)

Elizabeth „How to get education or accounting degree online if you live in Nigeria?“
Answer:
University of Phoenix online http://www.uopxworld.com/ is 100% online and international students are welcome, yes Nigeria too. You will have to take 2 years minimum Elizabeth but you can learn on your own time which means it could be longer if you want it. Degree in education or accounting is avalable to you and you don't have to pay all at once. In addition to competitive tuition fees, they offer the advantage of paying for online college courses one course at a time, rather than an entire semester or year at once. University of Phoenix participates in financial aid programs for it's online college courses, including the Federal Stafford Student Loan, the Federal PLUS Loan, and the Federal Pell Grant. They do not charge students for processing financial aid applications. For further details about your eligibility, and to receive application forms, please call and speak with an Admissions Counselor or go to
http://www.uopxworld.com/ I wish you well Elizabeth 

Daniel „…I really think I need a financial help if I were to study there as I do not want to burden my family…I hope you want to help me find a few suitable colleges for me.“
Answer:I would like you to look at this site and see if you can find something for yourself.
http://sea-usa.org/ You can get grant here, money you don't have to give back. All you need to do is to finish college, very cool.Take a look.

Now, let's talk about something else.Do you know how to type a business letter?
There are many things in life that you may never have to do, but almost everyone will have to go about typing a business letter at least a few times. This can be for a variety of reasons, and you don’t have to work in the business world in order to have to know how to write one. If you have a complaint, need something fixed or addressed, or perhaps have to communicate with someone about a purchase or service, you will need to know how to write a letter in a formal tone.
Typing a business letter is something that everyone should learn in high school. I know I did quite a few, and we learned how to format them and how to go about getting our point across. The way you will go about typing a business letter will depend on what you want to happen or what you need. That is why the Internet is such a great thing. If you look, you can find examples of almost any type of business letter that you can use as a guide if you don’t know what you are doing.

Typing a business letter has become easier than ever thanks to word processor programs like Word or WordPerfect. For the most part, you can start typing a business letter and the software will pick up on this and help you with the standard format for that type of letter. This will mean that you will have everything in the write place, though it won’t help you know how to word the letter. That will be up to you. These programs will also help you format any other type of letter or document you may be trying to produce.

If you are truly having a hard time typing a business letter, you can find people who can do it for you, for a fee. They will know how to type up the letter in the perfect format, and they can also help you with the wording. If you need refund and aren’t getting one, they can help you with typing a business letter that will demand they pay up. If you want to compliment someone on a product that has improved your life, they can help you draft such a letter as well. Just remember that the most important thing about typing any business letter is to make sure it is free of errors and is signed and dated correctly. No one could have foreseen the effect television and computers have had on our society. Children are being exposed to everything, whether they are ready to understand it or not. There is a profound helplessness in the eyes of many parents as they desperately attempt to shield their children from the vile reality of life.

Of course all the abductions, murder, alcohol, drug abuse and abandonment existed years ago, but because our communication practices were so primitive, you fortunately or unfortunately did not have the opportunity to learn about every little detail of the event.

It is impossible to live in a cocoon and even if you could, the technology savvy communication conglomerates would find a way to beam information into your secluded little dwelling.

Parents must learn better ways of communicating with their children and providing them with information before it is obtained outside the home. This can only occur if this country takes a serious look at making parent education a priority. Parents must take a more active role in the ever changing dynamics associated with parenting.
More videos

USA Best Colleges For B Students

Guide for B Students without Straight A's. Without traffic a website barely exists, and we shouldn’t even talk about profit. We will try to see here the most important steps to attract targeted traffic. Beginners in internet usually make the mistake to want any kind of traffic and therefore they get themselves into programs that offer tens of thousands of hits for their site, but most of them are blind hits. And after this experience they don’t manage a thing and they give up the idea they could ever do something. For those who try to learn from they experience, they have to come to the conclusion that the only type of traffic they need is targeted traffic. They need real interested visitors, not visitors forced by a traffic generating system to enter their site. I did not have that problem because I have older brother. Used books are by far the easiest way to find cheap text books. Why? They can often be found right alongside the new books in your campus bookstore. An even better way to find cheap text books is to by them directly from students at the end of a semester. If you know what classes you will be taking and what textbooks they will require it is easy to find cheap text books from the students who are already in the class and looking to sell off their books. Or just copy text book from some girl you now. By cutting out the middleman you can find cheap text books and they can sell their books at a better profit. One of the most unexpected expenses for first-year college students is when the first walk into the bookstore. Sure, if you’re a first-year you realize that you’re going to have to buy books, but there’s a good chance you didn’t realize that the books for one semester can easily cost $1,000. “But wait, it’s probably not so bad,” the first-years argue, “I can just sell my books back at the end of the semester and get my money back.” Though this strategy may work for some students, for most it is nothing but a pipe dream. It is rare for a book to get more than half of cover price when it is resold to a bookstore. Also, professors often change textbooks or won’t teach the same course from one semester to the next, so your local college bookstore may not even take your books back. They like to make money by writing books you have to buy. It's not football, and it doesn't involve a point guard or free throws. In fact, this particular sport doesn't involve a ball of any kind. It only takes two in order to play and all you need is a pair of gloves. If you didn't already guess it, I'm talking about boxing. This is a westernized form of stand-up self-defense, but is more commonly thought of as a sport. It's all in how you train and what you make of it. Personally I would be much more apt to learn boxing for self-defense purposes, rather than trying my hand at the pro circuit. Few and far between are skilled enough for that route. Having said the obvious, who's up for a boxing lesson or two? This form of self-defense/exercise can really benefit your overall lifestyle.
I received my first lesson in boxing from a customer in the video store I used to work at. This was about four years back. At the time, he was just entering the pro circuit. I was more than happy for him to pass me the boxing basics. It's awesome to learn boxing or any martial art from someone who excels at it to his level. He first informed me that there are four basic punches in boxing. The first and foremost of these is the jab. This is the first and most crucial strike his trainer taught him. It's often used to stun, set-up, confuse, or distract your opponent. It basically paves the way for more vicious attacks. Secondly you have the strait punch or cross. This particular punch begins at your face and blows straight through to your opponents. You'll see it over and over in professional boxing matches. Then you have the hook punch. This one is a great follow-up to a jab. Stun then demolish your opponent with a fierce right hook. And finally there is the upper-cut. This is probably the least used, but most powerful of punches. If you can slip one in and make decent contact, you can do some real damage in a fight. Just be sure you don't toss it out of nowhere. A boxer would see it coming and dodge, then attack. Now, whether you wanted to learn boxing or not, you just got your first taste.
I chose to learn boxing for self-defense purposes. I had already studied Chinese boxing for years. It was time to add a western flare to my eclectic style of self-defense. For most professional jobs there are several hundred applicants that send in their resumes. I am in charge of hiring staff for a large mental health center. I am finding that it is more and more difficult to weed out people through the paper work they turn in. Most applicants have done a good job of researching writing a good resume and cover letter. I do find that many times people do appear much better on paper than they do in person.
Recently I went through the process of hiring two therapists for our group. Their job duties included individual therapy sessions as well as co-facilitating a group for people with anger issues. I had narrowed down the applicants to ten that I would interview face to face. One applicant was granted an interview based on a letter of recommendation that was written by a former employer. I had been very impressed with the statements that were made. The letter of recommendation proclaimed that the applicant was skilled in working with people and also in documenting patient progress. When the applicant arrived I was very surprised that this was the same person mentioned in the letter of recommendation. They were not able to maintain eye contact and their answers did not fit the questions asked. The person stood up for part of the interview and paced as they answered the question. They made me very ill at ease and I knew that they would not be able to interact well with the clients we served. I thanked the person for taking the time to interview and moved on to other applicants.
At the end of the day I had found one person, but was not satisfied with any of the other interviewees so I went back to the stack of resumes. As I was going through them I noticed that another person had the same letter of recommendation as the applicant I interviewed earlier. I called the person that had written the letter of recommendation for both people. The letter had come from a large mental health center that is connected to a teaching hospital that has a psychiatric unit. Both applicants had completed a nine month internship with the program. The person that supplied the letter of recommendation was unable to recall either applicant. He stated that he has three letters that he posts on a website and he lets the interns pick the one that best match their skills and they fill in their personal data. Since hearing of this practice I no longer consider such letters when deciding on who will get an interview. I rely on questionnaires that I supply or telephone contacts with references.
Katarina Bader http://www.baderbiz.com/college

Students and debt consolidation mortgage loan

When I went into debt, I went into panic mode. There is no other way to describe it. I could not eat. I could not sleep. I could not get a moments rest. Almost every single dollar that I received went to pay off my debts. I tried all manner of online debt consolidation, but nothing worked. There just wasn't enough money coming in. Finally, I got a debt consolidation mortgage loan. That was the turning point.

I don't want to say that the debt consolidation mortgage loans the whole reason that my life changed. Far from it. You see, I had a bad attitude to begin with that got me into massive debt. I used my low interest credit card to rack up bills that I just could not pay. By the time I had missed a payment or two on my online credit card, it was too late to catch up. Without the debt consolidation mortgage loan, I probably would've had to file for bankruptcy. As it was, all my money was just barely enough to cover the interest on my debts. If I had not had some equity to put up for a low interest mortgage loan, I would have faced financial ruin.

The debt consolidation mortgage loan gave me the chance I needed to start my life over again. It was not enough to take care of everything by itself. I still had pretty substantial debt payments, but they were much smaller than before. They were manageable now. I had learned my lesson, and once I got the debt consolidation mortgage loan, I began to make more responsible financial decisions. I knew that I did not want to fall in to debt again. That was the last thing that I wanted!

A lot of people who get debt consolidation mortgage loans come out of the experience no different than before. As soon as they get their head above water, they just plunge right in again. For me, however, it was different. Once I got the debt consolidation mortgage loan, I realized that I had a unique opportunity to start over again. I knew that I could not make the same mistakes as before. I simply could not afford it. In some ways, I am glad that I went into debt. It served to wake me up. Now I know how important it is to make the right decisions about my future.

Katarina Bader http://collegeopportunities.blogspot.com/

College research

Choosing a college is a big decision. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of methods of preventing hangovers, but they all require a little bit of thought to go into them. No matter what the vendors of hangover cures might say, it is not as simple as popping a pill. If you want your hangover prevention to work, you have to drink plenty of water, space out your drinking, not drink too much wine, and never drink on an empty stomach. It can be hard to manage to do all of these in an adventurous night of heavy drinking. Nonetheless, it can be worth it.
If hangover prevention were as easy as some people say it is, there would be no need for hangover cures. For every hangover prevention that I've heard of, there are at least half a dozen hangover cures. You can drink water, drink orange juice, eat greasy food, eat healthy food, drink a bit of what you drank the night before, drink a whole lot of what you drink the night before – the list goes on and on. Hangover prevention has a lot to do with common sense. A hangover cure, however, has more to do with what works for you. Some people need to drink water when they're hung over. Others can't stand the stuff and prefer to drink tea instead. Some people need caffeine, while for others it makes the headache worse. Fortunately, most of us have plenty of opportunity to practice our hangover cures.
My favorite way to get rid of a hangover involves a combination of these tactics. I always try to use some hangover prevention, but it is not enough if I am going to drink heavily. I will have some bread with my alcohol, which will soak it up and make it disburse through my system more slowly. Nevertheless, I can take it down! That is why I drink plenty of water and make sure that my curtains are drawn. That way, when I wake up about noon the next day, the lights is not shining in my eyes. I can take a few aspirins and wait for them to take effect before I get out of bed. Then, once the room stops spinning, I have some more water and a big greasy breakfast. This usually works to get rid of a hangover.

Planning Homeschooling for the kids

Homeschooling is a growing trend across North America. An estimated 1.2 million children are home schooled on a part time or full time basis currently in the United States.
Many parents make the decision to homeschool their children, and in doing so are privy to some clear benefits. Homeschooling allows you to tailor a specific education to your child's individual needs, something that is often lacking in the public or private school systems. Homeschooling also allows you and your child to learn together, creating not only a valuable learning experience but strengthening family bonds. Add to this the fact that it is often prohibitively expensive to send multiple children to private schools, and we can see why homeschooling has become increasingly popular.

One of the most important aspects of homeschooling your child is coming up with a clear plan and set of goals. One of the greatest aspects of homeschooling - its complete flexibility - can also be one of the most difficult if it is not approached directly. Without a clear plan, you run the risk of creating a scattershot education that puts your child out of place with his or her peers.
So when you begin homeschooling, you should come up with a clear set of general goals. Think about why you want to homeschool your children, and what you want them to get out of the experience. What, generally, do you want your child's education to encompass? Once you have answered these general questions for yourself, begin to split your child's education into various subject areas. For each subject area, you want to come up with a timeline and set of goals.
A good place to start in terms of a timeline would be to look at the standard curriculum for your child's grade in a public or private school. While it is almost certainly true that one of these reasons you've selected to homeschool your child is to go beyond and outside this standard curriculum, you also want to make sure that your child does not fall behind his or her peers in a given subject area.
Come up with your plan by looking at the standard expectations for a given subject level and then working backwards: how do you want to achieve that level of knowledge? What are the targets for each week? By setting these targets you can establish a timeline and curriculum that allows for effective homeschooling.
Clearly, one of the points of homeschooling is its relative flexibility, and you by no means need to stick to a plan in a completely rigid manner, but don't let this tempt you into avoiding one: although it may seem wonderful to have an entirely "organic" education for your children, this can easily go awry. If you constantly let your child's learning be dictated exclusively by his or her interests, gaps will appear in her knowledge. Instead make a clear educational plan that allows for flexibility. Plan what your child is going to learn, but leave the "how she will learn it" some breathing room: as you begin the process of homeschooling you'll learn how your child learns best, and can begin to incorporate this into the lessons.

College loans and grants in Canada and USA

Student loans in Canada are provided by a joint Federal and Provincial program with the amount of and eligibility for a loan different between the Provinces and so depends upon the Province you are a resident of (your Province or territory of residence is decided by where you have lived for the last 12 months consecutively whilst NOT a student). You may, however, attend any educational establishment in the country provided both the establishment and the program of your choice are listed by the assistance office in your province.
There are several different types of funding for post secondary education that include grants and bursaries (which you wouldn’t have to pay back) but there are 2 main types of student loan – the Federal and Provincial programs. Whichever type of loan you wish to apply for it all has to be started off by applying to the Provincial/Territorial Assistance office for the Province you are officially a resident of.
The main attraction of a student loan is that although they are REAL loans that do have to be repaid, they are interest free while you remain enrolled in an eligible education program. Once you graduate/leave education the repayment terms are set (normally low interest and you agree the repayment term) and you begin to pay them back. Banks and other lending establishments are no longer involved in offering new loans as all funding is provided by the federal or provincial governments.
Quebec, Northwest Territories and Nunavut are NOT involved in the Canada Student Loans program and have their own systems. If you are a resident of one of these 3 provinces or Territories then you need to contact the particular office for that Province.
To start the ball rolling with the application for a loan there are several processes that you should consider. Your eligibility is the most important – both you (the applicant) and the course you wish to undertake must meet the criteria laid down.
The applicant: The main factor of eligibility is whether you are intending to be a full or part time student. If you are a part time student (20 – 59% of full course load) you may only apply for federal assistance though you would apply through the provincial/territorial assistance office.
A full time student (60% + of a full course load) may apply through the same offices but will be considered for both Federal and Provincial support (depending upon the province in question) though this would have to repay both the loans. The difference between the Provinces and Territories is prevalent here as these provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Yukon all would entail paying the loans back separately. If you are from Ontario or Saskatchewan then you would make one payment back to the NSLSC which would cover the total amount borrowed from both the federal and provincial programs.
The course you wish to enroll on must be listed on the Master List of Designated educational Institutions – it is strongly advised that you ensure the establishment you wish to attend is recognized by your provincial provider and the course choices meet the necessary requirements before you commit to it. This also applies if you wish to attend an overseas establishment.
Your personal financial status will determine the amount of assistance you will be offered with the Federal loan system covering up to 60% of the total you are assessed as needing and the provincial system contributing up to the remaining 40%. Your “needs” are assessed by the provincial office when you apply as they handle the initial application and will forward you the loan documents. Once the Provincial or territorial Student Assistance office has received and processed your application, it will establish the amount of loan you are entitled to apply for and carry out credit checks. Once approved, your Canada Student Loan will be administered by the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) through to its termination (full repayment).
This agency is responsible for all loans supplied since 1st August 2000 and has two distinct sections. The Public Institutions Division (looking after anyone attending a course at a Public facility such as a University or Community college) and the Private Institutions Division (for those who are receiving instruction at a privately funded facility like a technical college or trade school).

USA
ARIZONA
American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Arizona American Legion Auxiliary Department…This Association offers four different scholarships. The alternative medicine craze that has been sweeping this country in the last few years is nothing that is at all true in the country of China. On the contrary, what we can learn in Chinese medicine schools is the same wisdom that has been taught in China for centuries. Alternative healing, acupuncture, acupressure, and of course, the knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine and meridians, are all things that have been used for at least a few thousand years over in the east. Although western medicine is only just starting to understand the connection between mind and body, it is nothing new to the Chinese.
The problem is that if you want to study at a Chinese medicine school, unless you have an in, it is hard to see just what is the best way to go. There is a certification for Chinese medicine schools in the United States, but how do you really know what makes one better than the other if you have not been immersed in the tradition for your whole life? For many Americans, just the revelation that the Chinese medicine works is quite something, so how do you know which ones produce the best doctors? This has been something that I have been trying to figure out but it has not been an easy thing to do for me.
Ultimately, as far as I can tell, the way that most of the folks that I know who learn acupuncture healing have gotten involved in a Chinese medicine school is through someone that they know. They either have their own healer, or else they have a friend who has been healed by a Chinese doctor, and can see how well it works. Then, they will either study traditional Chinese medicine from them, or go to the Chinese medicine school that that particular healer went to. I am not sure if this is the way that it is done, but it seems to be a good enough approach. It is certainly as good of a way as any to choose a school. Apprenticeship might seem a bit quaint to some, but in a Chinese medicine school, it is still an important part of learning. Without studying under someone who knows what they are doing at a Chinese medicine school, how can you learn the art of healing?

Colleges and universities in California

Chose from 109 colleges statewide.Students can choose to work toward an associate (two-year) degree in hundreds of academic and technical fields that will enable them to transfer to a college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree. Course packs are much easier and cheaper alternative to text books. Because you have them printed yourself at copy shops, you can get course packs for a fraction of what college text books cost. There really is no comparison. The only problem is that course packs do not last nearly as long, and often the quality is lower. Because you are making the copies yourself, there can be small errors that slip into a college course pack. Nonetheless, I vastly prefer them to college text books. I do not care that they are more cheaply bound, or that they do not look as pretty. They have all the information that they need, and they are often more up to date than college text books.More on College text books

College term paper

I have written so many papers in my day. Now, let's get one thing straight. I'm not even talking about high school. I am solely addressing my four years at a University. I wouldn't be surprised if I wrote over 50. So, are you discouraged yet? And I'm only counting the take assignments; not the in-class written essays. I had a lot of these as well by the way. Just to be clear, the classic college term paper is not that big of a deal. It's a process like any other assignment. There are steps involved. First of all, what is your topic? Define it. Come up with a thesis statement. This should say what you're trying to prove or state in your college term paper. It lets the reader know where you're going with the piece. Then it's time for an outline.
More on College term paper

BUYING BOOKS ONLINE

The large online book sellers, like Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon carry a mind-boggling number of books. The class schedules are more flexible and many times the tuition is more affordable because there are not as many (if any) physical campuses and facilities that need to be maintained. If you are an adult returning to get your college degree, you know that it can be expensive. Whether you are commuting to classes or doing an Online college degree, the tuition is about the same. Paying for college can be a problem. But did you know that there are scholarships just for adult students? Yes, and you could be the recepient of one of those scholarships. First you need to get clear about how scholarship grants are designated so you do not waste time looking for money from programs for which you are not eligible. If you really want a scholarship, you will apply for both the non-restricted grants as well as the programs restricted to adult, returning students. "Casting a wide net is more likely to land some fish!" Here are some tips about finding scholarship money. First, look locally. Go to your local library and explalin that you are about to return to college to get your degree. Ask what books or references they have about college scholarships for adults. But if you are not so fortunate, here are a few suggestions and guidelines to use for writing your first research paper:
UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT
Read it through a couple of times. Highlight key words—any main prompting words and any action words.
CHOOSE a WORKABLE PROMPT/TOPIC
Most instructors offer more than one option for a research paper. If you have a choice, decide which prompt you will do according to which you want to do, that which you have interest in. You must do what interests you--otherwise you will be miserable through the researching and writing phases and your reader(s) will be miserable reading it.
What if you don’t care for any of the options? Force one choice to work for you: one man I worked with years ago could not see writing a 30-paged paper on women in California history, but he kept at it until he came up with a most original approach: writing on women as whores/prostitutes during the Gold Rush. He loved the work and his readers were riveted.
As often happens in college courses (especially the larger lecture courses), you get no prompt or only a vague one (to write forty pages on any relevant topic, say).
Ask yourself questions—pursue the answers.Follow your curiosity—one concern you have will lead to many areas, and subsequently to many focused ideas.Ask friends/other teachers their opinions.Look into the Library of Congress Subject Headings, a huge book with a zillion subjects and their related subcategories, or go online to a subject index such as www.interconnected.com, a site that gives you 100’s of possibly related topics when you type in one word. DECIDE ON A MODE—Many instructors will tell you to “compare and contrast” or to “prepare a statistical analysis,” for example, but for those assignments that are more general, you must decide yourself how to set up the paper, how to format it. Depending on the class and your angle of approach, you may use an argumentative, problem/ solution, compare/contrast, analysis, narrative summary and interpretation, or combination of two or more of the above, for instance. If you are not given a mode, you need to decide upon/establish a format. Break your paper into organized segments, setting up a format for your paper with, for example, the assets and liabilities…, or the spiritual/emotional/physical/intellectual changes…, or x number of decades…, etc..
NARROW YOUR FOCUS/TOPIC--Make sure your topic is manageable. Writing about Nazism in ten pages will not be sufficient space to cover everything needing coverage; the five most heinous medical atrocities practiced on men at Auschwitz will.
DEVELOP A WORKING THESIS--While you search for topics/themes that interest you, and later, as you narrow the topic, you will have to come up with a point, a main point, so the paper doesn’t just hang there with a bunch of facts/ideas stacked on it.
Ask yourself those curious questions—then answer them. The answer(s)—written down in complete sentence(s)—will be your thesis statement(s).
Consider what if scenarios. Your guesses—a.k.a. your hypothesis/es—will become your thesis statement(s).
Consider what your colleagues/peers/friends/family members experts think about the topic at hand. Do you agree? Go with their opinion as your thesis statement. Do you disagree? Go with your position, then, turning it into a thesis statement.
Consider the assignment. Does it ask you, specifically, to answer a question? Your answer, once you add up all of your research/ideas/ observations, should equal a complete statement.
WRITE and/or SUBMIT AN OUTLINE
I promise it helps to have a set of sub-topics you can write down and post next to your desk or pc, referring to the outline as you go so you stay focused…anchored.
COLLECT RESOURCES
Use a combination of books, periodicals, professional/academic journals, surveys or polls, the Net, interviews; the World Wide Web (being careful to use reliable sources), media materials—audio/video/ newspapers/microfiche/microfilm. (Ask for help using and citing all of these.)
DO A BIBLIOGRAPHY-immediately! Before you read any thing or person thoroughly, write down the source’s information. This is vital, as if you forget and write the paper and do the bibliography last—after your human sources have gone or you have returned written materials or left Internet links long ago—you will be missing dates, names, titles, and page numbers you need for accuracy.
READING and TAKING NOTES for a RESEARCH PAPER
When reading a piece for a paper, you are reading “to take” away something you need. Do not read whole books. No time for that.
1. Read the table of contents (in front)-find key words, ideas, people, related to your paper, and read just that /those chapter/s.
2. Use the index (in back), seeking out only key themes/phrases/words that apply to your research.
3. Look at each book’s bibliography/works cited page/s [at very end of book/article] for suggested sources.
Cite your source every time you use direct (word-for-word) quotes. Cite your source every time you do not use direct wording but do use any fact/theory/date you did not come up with yourself (indirect quotes).
DRAFT THE PAPER
Use the same components in a research paper that you would in an English assignment (using headers in the scientific/psych. experiment papers):
Use clear appropriate diction, and a scholarly/mature toneUse an engaging opener/ introduction. Use a complete, thoughtful, fresh and original thesis.
PROOFREAD/REVISE THE PAPER-
Follow a revising/editing checklist, or craft one of your own to follow: make sure you have an introduction, ample support, and a satisfying conclusion.
Make sure your paragraphs are well-ordered, your syntax (sentences) are orderly, varied, and well-punctuated.
And make sure your spelling and punctuation is clean!
You are on your way to your first research paper. Make it a great one!

Cheap text books for the poor college students

If you’re in college you most likely fit the stereotype of the poor college student, eating ramen and sucking down coffee to stay fed and awake for your late-night study sessions. College is expensive, and with some private college tuitions reaching over $35,000 it’s easy to come out of a four year university over $100,000 in debt. Of course, tuition doesn’t cover everything; college students still need to pay for things like housing, clothes, food, and books. Many students’ schedules make it hard, if not impossible, to work a part-time job while in school, especially if they take part in any extracurricular activities. Summer work is about all that’s available, and summer jobs can be low priorities to students looking for solid internships to help out their graduate school or future employment opportunities. Unfortunately, many of the best internships are unpaid, leaving students even more strapped for cash.
One of the most unexpected expenses for first-year college students is when the first walk into the bookstore. Sure, if you’re a first-year you realize that you’re going to have to buy books, but there’s a good chance you didn’t realize that the books for one semester can easily cost $1,000. “But wait, it’s probably not so bad,” the first-years argue, “I can just sell my books back at the end of the semester and get my money back.” Though this strategy may work for some students, for most it’s nothing but a pipe dream. It’s rare for a book to fetch more than half of its cover price when it’s resold to a bookstore. Also, professors often change textbooks or won’t teach the same course from one semester to the next, so your local college bookstore may not even take your books back. This is fine if you’re an English major reading Jane Eyre or Catcher in the Rye, at least you can build up your personal book collection, but if you get stuck with something like Practical Economics the book will probably do nothing but gather dust on the shelves.
Cheap text books are a great way to save money if you’re a college student, but they can sometimes be tough to track down. By cutting out the middleman you can find cheap text books and they can sell their books at a better profit.

Dorm room bedding

When a child heads off to college there are just so many things to think about. As a parent, you want to ensure that they have all the classes they want that they’ve purchased their books and that they are comfortable and settled in their dorm room. Being away from home for the first time can be a bit of a challenge for many young people and having a dorm room that feels truly like their new home can help. To aid in this parents can give their child dorm room bedding that is attractive, comfortable and easy to clean.
Granted keeping their room clean isn’t at the top of the list of things they need to do. They are more concerned with getting to class, studying and hanging out with their friends. However if you remind them that every now and again washing their dorm room bedding is very important, they’ll be more inclined to do it.
Before you can purchase anything for a college home away from home you need to see the room. Many campuses have an information day in early spring where, if you live close enough, you can tour the college facilities including the dorms. If your child is heading to another city or state, many schools have online tours that will show you images of the rooms available to students.
Standard protocol for rooms usually includes a twin bed, a desk and sometimes a dresser or bureau. Choosing dorm room bedding in this case will involve purchasing a few twin size sheets, pillow cases and a twin size comforter. Many parents opt for an extra long twin size comforter for those chilly winter nights. It gives the child some extra warmth.
Buying expensive items isn’t really necessary, unless the child has become accustomed to them while living at home. It’s good to remember that the dorm room bedding should consist of cotton sheets as most people find them to be the most comfortable to sleep on. While you’re choosing the bedding also pick up a couple of pillows. The dorm might supply these but it’s much more sanitary if the child brings along their own pillows when they move in.
A nice gesture is to give the child a jar of quarters along with the bedding. This is a not so subtle reminder that they should be using the laundry facilities provided to them to wash and dry their dorm room bedding. Throw in a bottle of laundry detergent and some fabric softener as well. The child will be more inclined to wash their bedding if you give them the supplies.

high school class reunions

I can hardly believe it, but my high school class reunion is just around the corner. I've volunteered to help out with the planning, and my task is to track down as many alumni as possible. I didn't really keep in touch with anyone once I went off to college, so it's not like I can assemble enough names and contact numbers to put together a decent party. Instead, I'm going to have to actively search for these people with nothing more than their full names and graduation dates to go by.
The first thing I did was use a couple of the free people searches on websites like Yahoo and Google. But those returned so many results that it would be impossible to sort through all the choices in time for my high school class reunion. So I decided to check out some websites that help people organize their high school class reunions. These sites have compiled searchable databases that will allow me to quickly find the classmates on my list. Of course not all of my classmates have registered with these sites, but a significant number have, so I was able to get a very good initial guest list for my high school class reunion.
I was also on the actual party planning committee, so my next task was to focus on making our high school class reunion as pleasant and memorable as possible. Unfortunately, the committee members soon figured out that we had taken on more than we could handle. After some deliberation, we decided to hire a company that specializes in hosting high school class reunions. These companies organize numerous high school class reunions every year and can take care of every aspect of the party, from the banquet hall to the catering to the band. They'll come up with a theme for the evening (if desired), they'll take care of the party favors, and they'll even book a block of hotel rooms at a discount rate for those attending the festivities. In short, the company takes care of everything except finding the guests so people can enjoy their high school class reunions without having to worry about the details.
Our committee members used the Internet to find a high school class reunion organizer in the area, and we were able to negotiate a fantastic price for their services. I've seen the preliminary outline of what our party will be like, and I am extremely excited about the event. Even though I'm a bit shocked at how quickly time is passing by, I know it's going to be so much fun to take a trip down memory lane with all my old friends.
If you're planning your high school class reunion in the near future, make things easier on yourself and do what my committee did: hire someone else to run the show!

College for teacher

Many of us have dreams of working in the field of education. However, some of us find this dream a little late. You might be surprised to discover that not all universities offer teaching certification. If you think that the field of education is the ideal career path for you, you may want to look into a college for teacher certification in your state.
Having a degree is wonderful but it doesn’t always guarantee you happiness in the workplace. Many people look to teaching as a possible career path after entering the business world. Unfortunately, many of these professionals find that they are not able to jump right into the field of education because they didn’t attend a college for teacher certification.
After earning my degree in Psychology I quickly discovered that there were no jobs that I truly enjoyed. I figured that I could look into teaching as a possible career choice instead. This was not nearly as easy as I thought it would be. There are many different qualifications and certifications that are earned through a college for teacher preparation that you just don’t find in all programs.
I decided to look into online college for teacher certification but this can be a little complicated as well. First of all it helps to be in the field of education already when you are taking these courses. Online courses for teachers are great for professionals already working in the field or for someone who has access to classrooms on a regular basis.
You might wonder why a certified teacher would want to take more classes. There is good reason for this. Many states require that the teaching staff members in their communities take the most up-to-date courses in their field. This helps the staff stay current on teaching strategies as well as the most recent information in their field of study.
Conducting studies via the Internet is the ideal for many people who work all day. You can find a college for teacher education that will keep you up-to-date on current strategies for an effective learning environment as well as other topics like inclusion. These courses can be completed at your convenience and many school districts reimburse the tuition as well.
Whether you are looking at a college for teacher education because you want to gain certification or whether you are an educator wants to complete Act 48 courses you can find what you are looking for right online.

3rd grade math

As adults, it is not easy to remember how hard it was to be a little kid. We take a lot of what they don't know for granted. We understand how to read and comprehend texts. We understand the basic principles of science. And most of all, we understand how to add, multiply, subtract, and divide. We can do fractions with ease. We can count by tens or hundreds. Nonetheless, 3rd grade mathis one of the hardest classes that a child has to pass. When third-graders fail to adequately learn their basic mathematical skills, it can lead to a lifetime of problems.
This was all brought home to me when I walked in on my little girl, Susie, crying. I asked what was the matter, but she refused to talk about it. After a few minutes, she said “I'm too dumb to go to school anymore.” Apparently, her 3rd grade math homework was so difficult and frustrating for her that she thought she could never pass anything again. She had been crying over her 3rd grade homework for some time now, frustrated over her inability to learn, and I hadn't even known. It really made me realize how difficult life can be to her. Until that point, I thought it was all peaches and cream.
Part of the problem is that many of the 3rd grade math lesson plans don't really adequately explain the concept to the students. They have lots of pictures, 3rd grade math word games, and pages to color in, but they are short on good solid explanations. It is almost as if they expect the third graders to pick up their lessons by osmosis. They don't make sure that they understand the concepts. They simply move from lesson to lesson, reading the script from the book. And some 3rd grade math books are just terrible!
The biggest problem with the difficulties that children face in 3rd grade math is that they can set the kids up for a lifetime of trouble. Kids get discouraged easily, so if they get behind at that age, they will have a lot of trouble catching up. Kids who do not understand their 3rd grade math will have trouble with 4th grade math as well. They will think that they are stupid, and face all kinds of worries and insecurities. This is why it is crucial to help your child with his or her 3rd grade math!

School summer programs

Heading back to school after a nice relaxing summer break can be a total bummer. I used to dread this when I was a kid. You get like 90 days off, but then it's back to the old routine of homework, tests and teachers. YUCK! That never sounds like fun to me. Then again, I have to consider myself fairly lucky. I never really had any awful teachers in grade school or high school, and I certainly never attended any school summer programs. In all honesty, I felt bad for the kids who did. Now that would ruin a summer break.
As we all know, it's imperative to work hard in school. Every child should give it his/her all. The initial effort is well worth it. Getting good grades throughout the school year is the best way to avoid school summer programs. Now, I really shouldn't send the wrong message here, but I am trying to look at this from a child-like point of view. Kids don't like school, and if they claim the like it in the beginning, this feeling will most likely fade. That's why I know children want to avoid school summer programs if they can help it. However, there are times where extra work is needed. Take my buddy Maurice back in grade school for example. He clearly needed to put forth some extra effort. The guy barely paid attention all year long, he never turned in his assignments, and he was a standard class clown. I think these kids always end up in school summer programs. It's practically inevitable. Anyway, he did just that. Come to think of it, he had summer school for two years in a row. He always complained to me about how much it stuck and how he hated going. I didn't feel bad for him though. If the guy would have just put forth some effort and done the necessary work, he'd have avoided school summer programs. Getting your work done always pays off in the end.
One thing I noticed now days that my daughter is in school is that school summer programs are available to everyone. Well, at least in my neck of the woods. They are not for the entire summer; therefore children can still have loads of fun. These programs were started to help children retain what they learned the previous school year, but they are optional. So far I can't get her interested in them. Go figure!

Homeschooling information

I always used to wonder why some families chose homeschooling over public school systems. Oh come on, you've had to have wondered the same thing at some point or another. It's just one of those things that you don't grasp if you don't do it yourself. I must admit that I assumed there was a safety issue involved if a child was homeschooled. I figured that his/her parents thought the public school systems were too dangerous for their little baby or something like that. I know, this is a little naive, but what was I supposed to think. As it turns out, folks resort to homeschooling for all sorts of reasons. Just check it out online. There are oodles of homeschooling information at your very fingertips.
Are you searching for some valid homeschooling information so that you can get started down this path? Hey, let me tell you, the World-Wide-Web is your best friend. Hop online at any time and attain all the facts you need to start homeschooling your child. If you didn't already know, there are tons of kids who are homeschooled in this day and age. It's becoming a regular thing. I recently read that some families initially did this way back because of their religion. They wanted their children to not be exposed to the standard everyday corruptions of the real world. I guess I can understand this on some level. However, I would want my child to interact with others, and fully understand how a society works. Also, when I researched homeschooling information I found out that many parents choose this route now days because they don't have faith in the public school systems. I am talking about education here. Do you think your child is receiving a good one? As far as many parents are concerned, they themselves can offer their child or children a much more solid education, not to mention special attention that the public school teachers cannot.
So, are you interested in homeschooling information yet? If you are curious even just a little, I definitely recommend that you get online and take a look-see. Find out how students who are homeschooled compare to those who attend public schools. Maybe their education levels are totally different. It's worth looking into for your child.

College opportunities

Welcome to my new blog about 'college opportunities'
K.Benedikt
